ENA Lantern Celebration

On August 11, 2021, a hot and steamy night, Phelps Hospital recognized it’s Emergency Department (ED) for achieving the prestigious Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Lantern Award. Mary McDermott, MSN, RN, APRN, NEA-BC, SVP, Patient Care Services / CNO, kicked off the celebration by sharing the significance of the award. Mary read the letter we received from the ENA. Our ED is one of four Northwell Hospitals and one of thirty-three hospitals in the nation to achieve the 2021 ENA Lantern Award. Other guests were invited to speak and reiterated how proud they are of our amazing ED for their consistent focus on the patient experience and well-deserved recognition. The guest speakers included: Eileen Egan, JD, BSN, RN, Executive Director; Berry Geller, MD, Emergency Medicine Chair; Emil Nigro, MD, Physician Advisor; Kenneth Taber, Chair of the Phelps Community Board; Maryanne Portoro, RN, ENA President for NYS; Alayna Davis, BSN, RN, PCCN , Manager, PC; and Suzanne Mateo, MA, RN, NEA-BC, Director, PCS.
